After Baking Up Pies in Waitress, Jeanna de Waal Returns to Kinky Boots on Broadway

Kinky Boots alum Jeanna de Waal is back to lamenting the history of wrong guys and has returned to the Broadway production. She took a brief hiatus from the role of Lauren to appear in Waitress at the American Repertory Theater; no word yet whether she will reprise her performance this spring. In the interim, Haven Burton played Lauren in the Tony-winning musical; she was recently tapped to appear in the Broadway-bound Gotta Dance!.

In addition to Kinky Boots, de Waal has appeared on Broadway in American Idiot. Her additional credits include We Will Rock You in the West End, Carrie off-Broadway, Wicked on tour and Finding Neverland at the American Repertory Theater.

With a score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, Kinky Boots follows Charlie Price as he is forced to step in and save his family’s shoe factory in Northern England after the sudden death of his father. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, a drag performer named Lola. Together, this improbable duo revitalizes the nearly bankrupt business.

In addition to de Waal, the Broadway company currently includes Tony winner Billy Porter as Lola and Andy Kelso as Charlie. Emmy winner Wayne Brady will step into Lola’s heels beginning November 20.
